UMW Toyota Motor has just announced a list of improvements to the Vios range for the 2012 model year which will be available starting today in all Toyota showrooms throughout Malaysia.
The most obvious change for all the 2012 models can be seen in the lighting units – the headlamps now take on a sporty image with a dark plated (smoked type) style. Also revised is the front fog lamp bezel incorporated on the lower corners of the bumper.
Elsewhere, the distinctive grille found on the Vios 1.5G Limited is now offered as standard to the Vios 1.5G, Vios 1.5E and Vios 1.5J models. This features a more distinctive chrome surround which gives a more premium and upmarket image.
The optional aerokit, only available for the Vios 1.5G Limited last year, can now be added to the other models (1.5E & 1.5J) at the time of purchase. This 5-piece package consists of the front bumper spoiler, side skirts, rear trunk lid spoiler and rear bumper spoiler.
The Vios 1.5E and Vios 1.5J get upgrades for their wheels with not only a sportier 12-spoke design but also a larger diameter of 15″ (previously 14″). The change is significant for the Vios 1.5J as it previously had steel wheels with a cover. Both models now use wider 185/60R15 tyres.
The Vios 1.5J has also received an upgrade in the cabin with a change in the seat material and fabric pattern, freshening its looks.
A SRS airbag is now installed for the front passenger as well, providing enhanced safety during a frontal collision. Like the seatbelt for the driver, the seatbelt for the front passenger is now equipped with a pre-tensioner and force-limiter. These two devices maximize the restraint on the passenger during the crucial moments of a collision.
This model also never compromised on the overall safety. A body structure that disperses the impact load during a collision to the entire body frame is adopted. The reinforced cabin integrates front and rear crumple zones and incorporates various features to absorb energy before it can harm the occupants. This ensures that the occupants are provided with a high degree of protection during an accident.
UMW Toyota Motor is also offering more advanced infotainment systems as options for new Vios models. Two type of systems (DVD-AVX and DVD-AVN) are available, both featuring a reverse camera. The reverse camera has a wide angle of view and its image is displayed on a full-colour 5.8″ (DVD-AVX) and 6.1″ (DVD-AVN) touchscreen.
Other features of the systems, which are neatly fitted in the 2-DIN space at the centre of the dashboard include a DVD player, AM/FM receiver, MP3 format compatibility and AUX & USB ports.
There’s also a Bluetooth function to allow hands free use of the mobile phone and a SD card slot (on DVD-AVX) to allow viewing of pictures taken on digital cameras. A remote control unit is provided for greater convenience so even passengers from behind can make adjustments to the system.
The DVD-AVN system includes a GPS route navigation system. This advanced system has a gyro speed sensor that allows tracking of the vehicle movement even when the GPS signal is lost. For convenience while travelling outstation, the locations of the Toyota Sales & Service Centre network are programmed into the maps.
Customers who wish to have sportier handling can also order the optional suspension kit with their new car. Specially developed for the Vios by TRD Asia and tuned for local conditions, the suspension kit comprises coil springs and shock absorbers which reduce the ride height by 10 mm. This reduces body roll further for more stable cornering and lane-changing but with minimal compromise to comfort.
The new Vios come with a choice of five colours, namely Medium Silver Metallic, White, Deep Amethyst Mica Metallic with a new shade of Silver Metallic and Attitude Black (in place of the previous Coal Black).
As with all models offered by UMW Toyota Motor, the new Vios comes with a 36-month/100,000 km (whichever occurs earlier after first registration) warranty.
